托伦知道男孩追求女孩的诀窍。柯林处心积虑地想要学会它，乡下姑娘南西则心甘情愿受这套诀窍摆布。汤姆是热心古道的艺术家，也对这套诀窍感兴趣。男孩追求女孩的诀窍，说起来也没有什么神奇的地方，只要你福至心灵就能够心领神会，就能够水到渠成，心想事成，一切尽在不言中。 　Colin的房客Tolen是一个玩弄女性的色情骗子。和Tolen相比，Colin总是和女人无缘，却渴望着性生活。他和另一个房客Tom出门去买张大床的时候遇到了Nancy，她在找基督教女青年会。他们去了Colin家。那里，她遇到了Tolen。Tolen用甜言蜜语引诱Nancy，搞得Colin非常嫉妒。Nancy因刺激晕倒，醒来后，发现被强奸了。Nancy指责Colin是罪犯 　本片根据女作家安 杰利科的剧作改变，但是与原作的故事和风格相去甚远，简直是面目全非。奇特的是，本片仍不失为一部佳片，处处洋溢着导演独有的、别具一格的讽刺和具有荒谬感的喜剧风格。本片的叙事精彩，情节有趣，一切的发展都是合情合理的；细腻地刻画了人物性格，生动的细节丰富了故事和人物。应该说，英国的喜剧在世界有着很高的水准。本片获得1965年第18届戛纳国际电影节大奖。
