剧情介绍

太湖边上，住着一户周姓渔民，妻早逝，有二女，长女琼珠（周璇饰），次女慧珠（袁灵云饰）。一天，周父（王桂林饰）携琼珠去集市卖鱼，被渔霸张百万（殷秀岑饰）的收债人遇见，周父还不出债款，遭到殴打。艺专学生崔时俊（顾也鲁饰）路见不平，上前制止。时俊之父崔化斋（周文彬饰）是张百万的帐房先生，正巧随张百万及其女国瑛（郑玉如饰）路过，见状急忙训斥时俊。国瑛见时俊年少英俊，顿生爱慕之心。琼珠对时俊的仗义行为深表感谢。时俊见琼珠天真可爱，便邀她到湖边，为她画了一幅《渔家女》。不久，时俊毕业，张百万将国瑛许配时俊，但时俊不爱国瑛，更不贪图张家财势，断然拒绝，父子为此反目。翌晨，时俊骑车到湖边寻访琼珠，不慎摔伤，幸为周家父女救护。崔化斋得讯，赶至周家，强拉时俊回家，迫他与国瑛订婚。时俊坚决不从，悄悄到周家，征得周父许诺，而与琼珠订婚，随即去上海谋生。张百万迁怒于周家父女，以讨债为名，逼走了周家。时俊在沪虽勤奋作画，但因不愿为出版商提供畅销的庸俗作品，生活陷于困境。国瑛追踪而至，暗中买下时俊所作的画，并假冒时俊的名义写信给琼珠，谎称自己已在上海另订婚约。琼珠接信后愤而投湖，幸被救起，但已精神失常。国瑛因探父病回乡，见此情景，深感内疚，即电促时俊返回，当面说明原委。时俊和琼珠终遂心愿。《渔家女》的故事脱胎于1926年拍摄的无声片《玉洁冰清》。
