« Tout commence par le deux » : départ/retour, terre/eau, Histoire/touri求爱e… À partir du mythe ancien de la fondation du Vietnam – le combat de deux dragons – et de l’équilibre entre terre et eau qui le définit géographiquement, Trinh Minh-ha compose un palimpseste de mots et d’images tournées en 1995 en vidéo Hi-8 puis en haute-définition en 2012. Les mots vont et viennent en surimpression, ballet graphique qui ajoute une couche à l’archéologie visible dans le paysage, mélange de traditions anciennes et de tentatives autoritaires pour les éradiquer. Désignant le Vietnam par le pronom « elle », Trinh rapproche implicitement la violence faite au pays à la condition actuelle des femmes. Quarante ans après la fin de la guerre, que voient, qu’entendent les millions de visiteurs de cette « nouvelle Thaïlande » ? Par quelle ironie une architecture flottante conçue pour échapper aux inondations devient-elle une mode internationale ? Posés sur des paysages paisibles et harmonieux, les mots y réinscrivent un passé sanglant (la Rivière des Parfums, champ de bataille sanglant en 1968), tandis que le son d’un hélicoptère hors-champ sur une visite au temple rappelle que l’État surveille les lieux de culte. Sous la broderie cinématographique émerge un propos ferme, virulent, qui prend acte d’un effacement de la mémoire. (Charlotte Garson)0323
